Digital vs. Conventional Progressive Manufacturing

Conventional progressives use a limited number of lens blanks that are polished to predetermined curves. HD (High-Definition) progressives are digitally surfaced on the back of the lens, allowing the manufacturer to customize the progressive design to your specific prescription and frame measurements.

Benefits of HD Progressive

  • Wider distance zone — more usable area at the top of the lens
  • Wider reading zone — easier near-vision access
  • Reduced swim effect — less peripheral distortion on head movement
  • Shorter adaptation period — most wearers adapt faster than with conventional designs

Common Questions

How long does it take to adapt to progressives?
Most wearers adapt within 1–2 weeks. Look through the top for distance and drop your gaze (not your chin) for reading. Avoid looking through the bottom for distance.
Can I go back to bifocals if I can't adapt to progressives?
Yes — if you're unable to adapt to progressives within 30 days, LensesRx will remake your lenses as bifocals at no charge under the satisfaction guarantee.
What frame styles work best with progressive lenses?
A minimum fitting height of 28mm is recommended. Smaller frames (under 26mm) limit the usable reading zone. Larger frames allow a fuller progressive corridor.
