What Are Digital Lenses?

Digital (also called high-definition or free-form) single vision lenses are surfaced using computer-controlled equipment that produces a lens with significantly more prescription points across the surface than conventional lenses. The result is crisper, clearer vision — especially toward the edges of the lens.

How Digital Surfacing Works

Traditional lenses are manufactured using a limited set of moulds. Digital lenses are surfaced in increments of 0.01 diopter (vs. 0.25 diopter for standard), allowing the lab to dial in your exact prescription with far greater precision.

  • Sharper peripheral vision — less distortion at the edges
  • Wider field of clear vision — better performance in large frames
  • Customized to your exact Rx — not rounded to the nearest 0.25

Included Coatings

Digital single vision lenses include anti-reflective coating and blue light filtering — reducing screen glare and protecting against high-energy visible light from digital devices.

Best For

  • People who wear glasses all day and notice peripheral blur
  • Anyone working at screens for extended periods
  • Higher prescriptions where edge distortion is more noticeable

Common Questions

What's the difference between digital and standard lenses?
Digital lenses are surfaced with greater precision (0.01D increments vs 0.25D), resulting in sharper peripheral vision and a wider clear zone, especially noticeable in larger frames.
Do digital lenses include anti-reflective coating?
Yes — our digital single vision lenses include both anti-reflective coating and blue light filtering as standard.
Is the difference noticeable?
Most wearers notice improved sharpness, especially toward the sides of the lens. The difference is more pronounced in larger frames and higher prescriptions.
What index material is used?
Digital single vision lenses are available in CR-39 (1.50) standard material, with optional upgrades to 1.60, 1.67, or 1.74 high-index at checkout.
